Essex Libraries are offering a variety of engaging activities and challenges to encourage reading and learning among children and families. The ‘Amazing Animals’ event at Sible Hedingham Library invites children to enjoy animal stories, crafts, and a library hunt during the school holidays. The ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ motivates children to read a diverse range of books and participate in creative tasks, with this year’s theme yet to be announced. For preschoolers, the ‘Ready… Steady… Go To School Challenge’ helps them develop skills and confidence for starting school, culminating in a certificate of completion. Additionally, the ‘Big School Meetup’ provides a platform for families to connect with others whose children are entering school for the first time, fostering a sense of community through shared activities and storytimes. These programs are designed to support literacy and school readiness, making the library a central hub for educational and social development.
