Chelmsford’s garden waste collections are changing from 1 March

Chelmsford City Council is now following most other local authorities in England by switching to a paid subscription service for garden waste collection. From 1 March, our residents’ brown bins will only be emptied if they are a paid subscriber.

There is a dedicated section of our website with all the details of the scheme and how to sign up: https://www.chelmsford.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/garden-waste-collections/. If someone is unable to complete the form online, they can contact us on 01245 615800.

Subscribers will receive a sticker to show that they’ve siged up to the service and the first batch of stickers has been sent out.

We have developed a toolkit of assets for you to share this update with those living in your parish if you wish. This includes a leaflet, posters, social media assets and digital screen artwork. In order to access these, you will need to log into a password protected section of our website.

“Chelmsford City Council’s garden waste collections are changing. From 1 March your brown bin will only be emptied if you’re a subscriber. Annual subscription prices, set at a similar level to other Essex council schemes, are £60 for a first brown bin and £30 a year if you’d like to add a second bin to be emptied. Residents receiving Council Tax Support are eligible for a reduced rate of £45 for a first brown bin. Your subscription will pay for a year of collections until 28 February 2026.
